Dream to Be is a non-profit organization that was the idea of two sisters, Makenna and Tayler Murphy. The organization raises funds to help support young girls who do not have the means to register in hockey due to the high cost of entry to the sport. The organization will pay for first year registration fees and all equipment required for selected candidates to get their start in hockey.
Makenna and Tayler both learned how to skate on a frozen lake at a young age. Makenna played house league hockey in Sudbury from age 10 to 17. Tayler began playing house league hockey at the age of 7, and then later transitioned to playing competitively for the Sudbury Lady Wolves. She then went on to play for the York University Lions from 2017 to 2022. In her retirement, she continues to play recreationally for the Sudbury Lady Wolves Senior A team.
The estimated cost per candidate is approximately $900-$1,100. Every dollar raised will be used to help others. All administration costs of the organization have already been paid by Makenna and Tayler.
